Happy fall, ya’ll!! I hope you’re enjoying fall so far as much as I am! It sure is beautiful here in Michigan as the trees are beginning to change colors and there is a brisk feeling in the air! Thanks for joining us for our monthly link-up, Books Teachers Love. If you’re new to this blog link up, check out a great one you can use this month of October here. The book I chose to use for the month of November is Grace for President by Kelly DiPucchio. As well all know, whether we like it or not, the election is coming up in November. This provides great opportunities for us to talk to our students about what is happening in our world. This read aloud is a great segway to this conversation. After reading about how Grace ran for president, students get to write their own paper about if THEY were the president! This is a great way to introduce/reteach ’cause & effect’. Students write about what they would do as president and how that would effect the world. (So cute reading what students write! In the picture below, the student wrote: “If I were the president, I would bake a cake for kids for their birthday.” LOL!) Click HERE for the Cause & Effect “If I Were the President” Writing. After prewriting their papers, they write their final drafts into a complete paragraph (unpictured). Then students get to draw themselves next to the White House (which they LOVE!)Pin the image below to save for next month!
